What have you learnt about technology from the process of constructing this product?
Whilst we were producing our OTS, we quickly started to acknowledge and learn how to use different editing techniques on our MAC computer, which we will go into more detail about below. Likewise we also required some pieces of technology, MAC computers included, a Canon camera DSLR and different types of software. Below shows a screen-cast of how we used some of the software on the computer:
Equipment and software we used:
Canon Camera DSLR
This camera was essential to film our OTS. Our group didn't have any problems using this camera, as it was simple, quick and easy to use; as the camera gave us the ability to focus in every scene quickly. Not to mention the camera was light, therefore made the journey of carrying it around comforting whilst it was on a tripod. Although this camera was easy to use and lightweight, it did come with some flaws which were that the focus on the camera couldn't be done, when our group wanted to record clips in a dark room. So then we had to use some light resource. Whilst we were producing our OTS, we had to edit the lighting in some clips, as the camera was not providing the lighting of what we wanted. Our group used a tripod to not only support the camera, but to keep it at an angle in the clips.
Apple MAC
The Apple Mac computers gave our group the capability to edit our OTS, do research, find inspirations to our OTS and sub-genre, create our webpages and more. More importantly this computer allowed us to use 'FINAL CUT PRO' in order for us to edit our OTS and make a more comfortable and professional feel for our work. Overall this computer and it's software including 'FINAL CUT PRO' was simple to use.
Final Cut Pro
Our group used the software 'FINAL CUT PRO' to put together and edit our OTS. Using this software for our opening title sequence was straightforward and enabled us to add a range of effects and we learned all kinds of different editing technics that worked well with the effects. Not only did the provided effects and edits make our OTS entertaining, but professional and high-standard. In our OTS, we had to mute the audio from the video as we wanted our OTS to sound more suspenseful and dramatic. With the help of FINAL CUT PRO, we were able to fit in transitions to make our look as smooth as possible; and we also were able to produce our titles for our OTS. In conclusion, using this software was manageable.
Prezi Presentation
One of the reasons for why we used Prezi as a presentation for one of the questions, is because this handy slide-show presentation was simple to use and more creative than 'POWER-POINT PRESENTATION'. Also our group needed to produce a slide-show presentation to basically break down our answers to the questions, in the evaluation. The question that we used Prezi for was question two, as we could describe the purpose for our characters race, gender, role and such in our OTS; also how they are represent in particular social groups.
Weebly
An easy to use website builder was essential, as our group was able to use this website to write our research of our OTS and our inspirations, plan and progress during our project.
YouTube and clip converter
A world famous video-sharing website named 'YouTube' helped us with our OTS, not only was this handy as we could upload our videos from FINAL CUT PRO, but we also used some of the provided audio on YouTube to add to our opening title sequence. YouTube has given us thousands upon thousands of clips and trailers that we were able to pick out and use as inspiration towards our OTS. After researching some clips and trailers, we then thought about using some audio to put into our OTS and FINAL CUT. Therefore clip-converter came to mind. With clip-converter we were able to convert sounds and music from YouTube to some videos on FINAL CUT with ease. After finishing videos on FINAL Cut, our group could upload these videos into YouTube, so that we could the videos onto our website.
