BBFC stands for the British Board of Film Classification they are responsible for the national classification and censorship of films within the united kingdom.
U stands for universal , if a film has this certificate this means that all ages above 4 are permitted to watch the film
PG stands for parental guidance, if a film has this certificate this means that some scenes may unsuitable for young children. PG is suitable for children over 8 years of age and older. Films may contain mild language or sex/drug reference and also moderate violence.
If a film has this certificate this means that the film may contain material that is not generally suitable for children under the age of 12. No one under the age of 12 can watch the film without being accompanied by an adult.
If a film has this certificate this means that anyone under the age of 12 is not legible to watch the film due to unsuitable scenes..
If a film has this certificate this means that anyone under the age of 15 is not permitted to watch the film due to any of the following:
- strong violence
- frequent strong language (e.g. 'f***').
- portrayals of sexual activity
- strong verbal reference to sex
- sexual nudity
- brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence
- drug taking
- discriminatory language or behaviour
if a film has this certificate this means that anyone under the age of 18 is not permitted to watch the fim due to the following:
- very strong violence
- frequent strong language (e.g. 'f***') and / or very strong language (e.g. ‘c***’)
- strong portrayals of sexual activity
- scenes of sexual violence
- strong horror
- strong blood and gore
- real sex (in some circumstances)
- discriminatory language and behaviour
