Opening Title Sequence
Scream (1996)
A Wes craven film, screams opening title sequence starts with a girl in her home on her own this is good because it makes you feel like she is safe as she is in her own home and everyone believes they are safe in there own home, he uses a neutral angle so you think that she is safe and there is no one in power. the fact that she is in white makes you believe she is a innocent and nieve, she is blonde which makes you think of the typical blonde stereotype, this is backed up by the horror theorist that says that the victims in the films tend to be "young, beautiful women".
Nightmare on Elm Street
in this opening title uses low key lighting as it helps to create the eery feeling as he makes his glove the fact tat there is only the sounds of him making the glove also adds to the feel. The victim in this film is also a young blond female so it fits the stereotype of the perfect victim that Carol Clover describes. The victim being a woman, blonde and wearing light clothing is making her look like a vulnerable victim as whites' connotations are 'innocent', 'nieve' and 'pure'. The low key lighting throughout the sequence is making you think that the victim is vulnerable and in some kind of danger, the angles tend to be high to show she is in danger because the audience is looking down on the victim. there is only diegetic sound to allow you to feel like you are there and the only thing you are hearing is the sounds around you.
Zombieland
In this opening title uses clips in different areas of america to show that the infection is spreading, from this OTS it's hard to tell that it's the opening to a comedy film due to the blood and gore available in each scene in the sequence. The music used throughout the clip also helps to show the enduring fear and the link to the end of the world. The use of slow motion filming also helps with the fear factor, due to the emotions you can see on each survivor's face. Alongside this the audience can also be filled with genuine fear due to the use of different actors of all different races, backgrounds, careers and genders. The first title is as significant as the last, the use of the character being able to interact with the title adds to the realism of the sequence of which is also visible in the final title of the OTS.
insidious
in this opening title sequence the use of red titles creates a eery atmosphere along side the dark background, this inspired us to use red titles. red is a good colour choice because of its connotations of blood, death, danger. they used black because black is mysterious, death, unknown and it is fear inducing abilities. the use of transitions suggests that there is a lot of unknown with in this as the titles fade in and out.
